Class description:

Do you love to shop almost as much as you love to knit? This poses a problem; what to do with all the bags you acquire in your retail journeys? Candi, the teacher of this class has discovered if you take an ordinary plastic bag and cut it into strips; you can actually knit with the plastic.

With all the retailers out there and all the fun colored bags that find their way into our lives, you can have yourself a vast array of sustainable knitting materials! We love the look that plastic produces plus it is waterproof and quite durable. What a fabulous Holiday gift this knitted purse would make- fashionable and good for the environment! You will leave this class with the skills to complete this project and the pattern to make it with.

Special notes and items to bring:

#1 set US #10 ½ / 6 ½ mm straight needles
Plastic bags in bright colors and black
Scissors
tapestry needle
1/3 of a yard of fabric (I used an ultra suede for the lining but you can use any medium weight fabric you like.)
9” zipper or button for closure
Thread to match fabric

Read this before you register

  • DIY Lounge is located at collage, a locally owned business that sells art supplies with a class space in the back. We have two locations in the Portland, Oregon area.

  • On average we require a minimum of 3 students to run a class. Class minimums are decided by teachers depending on the needs of the class. If registration is lower, the class will be cancelled and any students who have registered will be notified via email.
  • If a class is cancelled we can apply your payment toward another class registration or refund your money in full. Your choice!
  • Online pre-registration is required, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis. If you require an exception, please use our contact page and let us know your situation.
  • At least 48 hour notice is required if you need to cancel your class registration.
  • Be sure to check the supply list provided in the class notes and bring those items with you to the class.
